Phlebotomy Technician

Program Training Plan

This 5 week course will teach students in Health Technology fields the correct and most efficient means of drawing blood.   Students will learn back office laboratory and clinical skills.  Students will be taught how to successfully obtain the following:  urinalysis, venipunctures, butterflies, needle to syringe method, I.V. placement, hematocrits, and finger sticks.  Students will also be trained on proper laboratory administrative work protocols. Each student is required to provide volunteers to practice on throughout the course. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and give willing consent.

The National Certification Exam is not covered under MATC’s tuition/fees, and is not held by or at the MATC. The $100 cost is not required at the beginning of the course.

Course Prerequisites

• Students must be 18 years of age or older, by the first day of class, to enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician course.

• A maximum of 20 students per session and a minimum of 8 students is required to carry the class. If the enrollment numbers are not met the course dates, times, and locations can be changed or the course may be dropped.

NATIONAL CERTIFICATION TESTING:
This course will prepare students for the National Phlebotomy Certification Test with the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Please discuss national testing details with the course instructor.
