Program Training Plan

The MA program will train students to perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. Students will learn all aspects of the clinical office including: taking and keeping medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, assisting physicians during examinations, and prepare medical instruments. Medical assistants also collect and prepare laboratory specimens and sometimes perform basic laboratory tests, like: injections, biohazard handling, drawing blood and IV placement, preparing patients for x-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures, and change dressings. In addition to working with the doctor, students will learn some front office skills including: office reception skills, scheduling, billing, insurance, and medical coding. Students will also be trained in CPR and First Aid.

Externship Training

Externship Training (180 Hours):
This program includes a mandatory externship. The student works under the supervision of a doctor in a medical setting, observing and assisting in daily tasks. Students will be responsible to arrange their own externship site, in coordination with the program instructor.
Note: Students must complete the externship training of 180 hours to receive MATC Certification of Completion. If a high school student does not finish externship hours prior to graduation, tuition will be charged for any hours remaining.
