Program Training Plan

Class and Salon Training (2,000 Hours):
Cosmetology training will provide students a minimum of 2,000 attended hours of instruction. These hours include 1200 hours of hair, 600 hours of aesthetics, and 200 hours of nail related training. These areas of training include: hair cutting and coloring, chemical hair services, hair extensions, barbering, nails, and basic skin care and makeup application. This program will prepare students to sit for the Utah State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exams.


Leave Time (160 Hours):
Students will have 160 hours of leave time built in to their tuition. Students needing more than 2,160 scheduled hours to complete required competencies will be expected to pay tuition and fees for additional time in the program. Unused leave time tuition will be refunded upon completion of the program. Tuition is currently $1.70 per hour.

Course Prerequisites

• All students are required to meet with the Cosmetology Salon Manager to discuss the program:
• Thanksgiving Point: Salon Manager (801-753-4247, option: 1)
• Spanish Fork: Salon Manager (801-753-4247, option: 2)
• Alpine School District students need to meet with, discuss, and obtain a Cosmetology Checklist from their school counselor. With the completed checklist, they are required to meet with Glen Bailey at the Alpine School District Office.
• All High school students must approve enrollment start and end dates with their high school counselor before registration with MATC for any session.
• As part of the admission process, adult students are required to complete a basic assessment of reading and math skills. The test is free and takes approximately 1 hr to complete. For additional information, call the Testing Center at: (801) 753-4110.

• After completing orientation hours, all students are required to attend on Saturdays. Open Entry / Open Exit Enrollment (OE/OE):
• This program runs on a special OE/OE schedule. Students can start class on any of the given start dates, when seats are available, and will finish the program when students have completed: (1st) 2,000 hours of training: (As required by state licensure) (2nd) All program competencies to instructors. (3rd) At least 12 months of instruction. Due to individual student’s rate of learning and weekly hour input, completion dates will vary per student.
