Automotive Technology

 

Automotive Technology:
The Automotive Technology Program offers training Programs in Auto Engines and Powertrain. The Engines Program provides training in Engine Repair, Electrical Systems and Engine Performance. Students enrolled in the Powertrain Program become proficient in Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Drive Train, and Heating and AC. The Automotive Technology Fundamentals class is the prerequisite for both programs. There is an open lab available for students to practice the skills learned.

Commercial Truck Driving:
The growing demand for skillfully trained, ethical truck drivers is greater now than at any time in the past decade. In fact, there is a critical shortage of drug-free and accident-free drivers. Employment in professional driving may depend on the ability to meet employer requirements, such as DOT mandated drug screening and a satisfactory driving record. This three week program prepares students for varying conditions such as road, weather, equipment, traffic, pickup and delivery, hauling goods or materials, and loads that typically exceed 20 tons.

Diesel Mechanics:
Diesel Mechanics diagnose, repair, weld, and fine-tune the working parts of buses, trucks, construction machinery, and generators. In this program students will become proficient in basic shop skills, PM inspections, brake relines, engine tune-up and rebuilding, component inspection and measuring, drive trains, and suspension and steering.

Emissions Test Preparation 

The Emissions Test Prep course is designed to help an auto technician understand the causes of emission failure and the correct procedures to make proper repairs, with an emphasis on newer technology, fuel injection, and emission controls (loaded mode testing and OBD II). Training includes lecture, discussions, and hands-on exercises.  This course prepares students to take the County Emissions Certification Test.  Utah County will waive the pre-test for students who have current ASE L1 Certification.

MATC (under direction of the Utah Department of Public Safety) provides certification training and testing for individuals performing Vehicle Safety Inspections.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Business Technology

 

APICS (Resource Management) Certification:
The APICS program is designed for professional development and/or preparation for designation as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). Each of 5 separate courses is taught three hours per week for 10 weeks. APICS is a nonprofit educational organization respected throughout the world for its education and professional certification programs, and is recognized globally as the source of knowledge and expertise for manufacturing and service industries across the entire supply chain in such areas as materials management, information services, purchasing, and quality. Business Technology:
Partnering with the seven regional school districts, this program prepares students for a career in business. Courses include word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, office procedures, keyboarding, machine transcription, business communications, accounting procedures, and records management.

Computer Literacy:
This course was designed with the beginning computer user in mind. It instructs students in how computers work, what is needed to get started, and gives hands-on experience with IBM compatible computers. The course also introduces a variety of software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, data base, Windows XP, sending and receiving email, using the Internet, and more. This training will provide basic information to prepare the student for various computer applications.

 

Data Entry:
The basic Data Entry course prepares students for data-entry jobs. Using data entry pads on the electronic calculator as well as the computer keyboard, students learn 10-key functions, layout, fingering techniques, and data-entry. The course is preparatory to taking the Department of Workforce Services 10-key test.

Human Resource Management:
The roles and responsibilities of Human Resource (HR) professionals are growing dramatically in corporate, government, educational, and other institutions. To keep pace in this changing field, professional training is essential. Those practicing in the field must be informed about the latest in management practices, recruiting, training, employee relations, workplace regulations, and other developments.

 

ISM (Purchasing and Supply Management) Certification:
A series of seminars provide preparation for successfully passing the certification exams sponsored by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) in obtaining professional designation as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) This program is also suitable for those desiring entry into the purchasing or supply management profession.

 

Keyboarding (Typing):
Introductory typing is designed to teach and improve keyboarding / typing skills. Emphasis is on speed and accuracy through improved techniques and timed writings. Intermediate keyboarding is designed for beginning students familiar with the keyboard, but are not yet typing 25 WPM.

 

Microsoft Access:
Access is an application program which uses tables, forms and reports to help define, sort, manage and view information in databases.

 

Microsoft Excel:
Excel is a powerful spreadsheet program that can be used to efficiently store and work with lists of data, calculate numbers, and create reports and charts.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint:
PowerPoint is the world's leading presentation making program. It takes text and numbers that have been collected and hands back slides and charts with the professional polish demanded by today's audiences.

 

Microsoft Word:
Word is a powerful word processing program that can be used to efficiently create and modify a variety of documents.

 

QuickBooks Pro:
This course is designed for the business owner or bookkeeper who wishes to track financial records with greater ease and accuracy. The basics of inflows, outflows, inventory control, account balances, employee records, job costing, and customized financial reports are explored.

 

Speedbuilding:
Speedbuilding training is designed to increase typing speed and accuracy. The course includes a computerized keyboarding program that allows students to work at a self paced rate with emphasis on the areas that need improvement.

CPR Certification:

With this six hour training, students will be able to receive a Healthcare Provider Certification.

Dental Assistant:
Dental Assistants are hired to perform chair-side assisting skills, front office procedures, radiology techniques, and commonly used dental material manipulations in a dental office. The program prepares students for work in the dental field through classroom lecture, lab work and an externship in a general dental office as well as in specialty practice such as orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, periodontics or prosthodontics. Students also receive hands-on training in MATC dental clinics. This training includes up-to-date dentistry procedures, technical training in taking radiographs, the manipulation of dental materials and front office skills and procedures.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):

 

The EMT Basic Program prepares students for a career in public service, such as employment in Law Enforcement, Fire, or Emergency Medicine, or teach what to do when faced with a medical emergency. Training includes clinical and classroom hands on experiences. Topics include HAZMAT awareness, basic First Aid, patient assessment, triage, multi-casualty, emergent and non-emergent patient extrication (with or without CNS injury), airway management, CPR, shock & bleeding control.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate:
This course is for Utah EMT Basics who have been certified for a year and are looking to become State certified at the intermediate level. The EMT Intermediate course is 60 hours of training. Skill competencies will include: foundations of the EMT-1, pharmacology, venous access and medication administration, airway, physical examination, patient assessment, communications, hemorrhage and shock, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions and overdoses. Employment possibilities as an EMT will increase with these additional skills and knowledge.

Medical Assistant:
Nationwide opportunities exist for trained Medical Assistants. Medical Assistants are hired to assist physicians and perform duties such as insurance billing, basic lab procedures, physical exam assisting, injections, and basic patient care. Medical Assisting programs cover three basic fields of training: administrative, theory, and laboratory. Topics covered in these areas include patient administration, filing, accounts, insurance control, anatomy and physiology, diet and nutrition, pharmacology, hematology, urinalysis, injection techniques, and CPR. Training includes classroom lectures, lab and an externship. An Associate of Applied Technology degree is through an open-entry/open-exit format.

Medical Billing & Coding:
This program will provide students with the skills necessary to locate, document, and assign diagnostic and procedural codes using current ICD-9-CM/ ICD-10, CPT, HCPC manuals, and coding software in proper claim submission for billing and reimbursement for services rendered. This course will prepare the student to obtain employment: as a billing or coding specialist in a physician’s office; clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, labs, public health facilities and insurance agencies. Following this class, students will be able to test for the National Coding Certificate to become Nationally Certified.

Medical Billing & Coding Accelerated

The need for qualified medical coders has greatly increased due to demand for health care services and the tightening of government guidelines related to health care coverage, patient services and reimbursement processes.  This program will train students to properly locate, document, and validate appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes using the current ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding manuals for professional services. Proper billing, insurance claim preparation, and reimbursement policies will be taught as part of this program.  Students will also gain knowledge of medicolegal and ethical responsibilities, as well as anatomy and medical terminology.  Students completing this program will be able to apply for employment opportunities in doctors’ offices, clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, labs, public health facilities and insurance agencies.  Upon completion students will be prepared to test for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).  Upon passing the examination students will be certified as medical coders with the AAPC. 

 

Medical Office Administration:
The student will be prepared to obtain employment as a receptionist or billing specialist in a physician's office or as a unit clerk, ward clerk, medical records specialist or receptionist in a variety of settings in the health care community. Students learn medical terminology, transcription, scheduling appointments, telephone triage, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, insurance coding and billing, payroll, organizing medical records and filing, employability skills, resumes, law and ethics in the physicians office, collection procedures, and computer billing. This is an open-entry/open-exit program.

Nurse Assistant(CNA):
Learn how to provide direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in a hospital, long term care facility, home health, and other health care settings. Students will prepare for the State Certified Nursing Assistant exam.

Practical Nursing(LPN):
This two-semester program will prepare students to function at the first level of nursing in a variety of health care settings. Classroom theory is provided concurrently with a variety of clinical practice experiences. Completion of the practical nursing course will prepare students to pass the NCLEX-PN exam and practice as a licensed practical nurse. Students may have the opportunity to apply for admission into the advanced entry registered nursing program at Utah Valley University. The MATC Practical Nursing Program has been granted accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Pharmacy Tech:
Learn how to assist the pharmacist in a retail or hospital setting to prepare, store and dispense medications. Students learn about inventory, ordering, labeling, storing and distributing medications. They learn to work with patient records, billing information, gathering information for the pharmacist and distribution of printed information to the patient.

Information Technology

 

The Information Technology Program helps meet the diverse needs of students with different interests and objectives. Courses encourage practical application of knowledge through hands-on activities to prepare students for career opportunities, continuing education, and globally-recognized certifications. Many of our courses are offered as a blend of in-lab work and online curriculum that is available from anywhere. Powerful Web-based resources for both students and instructors complement and extend instruction. Students are able to extend instruction with online course ware, reference materials, group collaboration and mentoring. With support from instructors, students who are disciplined and motivated can not only earn industry recognized certifications, but will also acquire the hands on skills to be confident in competing in today's workforce. Schedules are flexible using an Open Entry / Open Exit model. However, student are required to attend class and do not have the option to come and go as they wish. Programs are self paced so students can focus and progress without the added pressure of trying to keep up with the class or wanting to move faster.

Barbering:

Student learn techniques of shaving, mustache/beard design, hair cutting, using razors, shears, and clippers. Special attention will be given to hygiene, skin and scalp disorders, anatomy, sterilization, sanitation, and salon operation. Student will be required to adhere to a professional dress code.

Culinary Arts:

This is a great introductory course that provides skills needed for immediate employment in the exciting culinary field, or continuing education.  Students will study nutrition, sanitation, safety and basic knife skills.  They rotate through all areas of the kitchen including the dish area, pantry, hot station, bakery, line, short order and guest services.  Also included are cooking principles, introduced to the variety of breads and pastries, and will serve as shift supervisors and have management duties.  Actual work experience is also included!

Composite Materials Technology:

This program focuses on training students to fill the growing market need for skilled technicians in the advancing composite industry.  Students will receive a basic understanding of composite materials, as well as knowledge and hands-on experience in preparing, using, and repairing composite materials  This technology allows fabrication in making lightweight, structurally strong parts and assemblies for a variety of applications, such as:  aerospace, automotive, general aviation aircraft, prosthetics, sporting goods, and textile manufacturing.

Cosmetology:
The program prepares students to become state licensed cosmetologists. Students learn several different techniques of hair cutting, styling, coloring, perms, manicures, and basic aesthetics.

The competencies met in this course will help fulfill the FCAW requirements for the American Welding Society's Entry Level Welder certificate. The student will learn how to properly weld with the most commonly used wire in all positions. Limited thickness qualifications will also be performed.
